Objectives:

  • After completing this lesson, the student will be able to describe the tasks involved at the start of a ground station contact or pass, including AOS, satellite communication/lock, satellite state of health, and command execution.

  • Explain what occurs at Acquisition of Signal (AOS) and how to confirm it has happened

  • Describe verification of two way communication with the spacecraft

  • Identify and list typical satellite command and telemetry link components

  • Discuss how to verify the health of a spacecraft once contact has been established

  • Recall important areas to monitor during a satellite contact

  • Explain the process of verifying the pre-loaded execution of satellite commands

  • Recognize common commanding safety controls (such as single command release authority and two person validation)

  • Identify the common indicators for successful command reception and execution

  • Describe the methods used to verify the execution of command sequences
