Objectives:

  • After completing this lesson, the student will be able to describe the power management activities of a satellite, identify the different types of sensor calibrations required and gain knowledge on managing control system components.

  • Identify operational approaches to “load shedding” and how it impacts power management

  • Discuss the operational impact of needing to manage battery duty cycle

  • Understand the need to validate mission plans from a power standpoint before uploading command sequences to the satellite

  • Discuss the operational need to calibrate satellite sensors

  • Understand the need for and implications of momentum management as part of routine operations

  • Discuss the process for momentum dumping from momentum/reaction wheels (desaturation)
